Description
One of my favourite shots from the Shinto groundbreaking ceremony for the dedication of the permanent Mori no Ike campsite.
The kannushi is scattering salt and paper.
Jichinsai, or groundbreaking ceremony, are done whenever a new building project is started. It is a ritualistic calming of the land spirits and asking that they not interfere with the construction. Now, it's more of a cultural ceremony than a religious ceremony, but it's done all the time, nonetheless. It was really interesting to see one in person.

*ahem* Now that that's out of the way...
This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime shot. It is absolutely gorgeous, and absolutely captures the somewhat mystic nature of the ritual. A fabulous way to remember the event
